Before we dive in, here’s your wee warning: this post is packed with farewell to 2021 reflections and all the hopeful vibes for 2022. So buckle up—I promise it’ll be worth it! 😉
2021: A Year of Nomad Adventures
This year was one for the books! I started in Falkirk, danced through spring in Montrose, and then fell in love with North Berwick. Honestly, if I had a “perfect town” checklist, North Berwick would tick nearly all the boxes.
So why am I leaving? Good question. My stubborn-ass self has decided it’s time to explore the west of Scotland. As much as I love North Berwick, ya girl is missing that sense of community—the kind you get from yoga, pole & aerial fitness, and being around more like-minded people. I’m craving those big city vibes, where you can dive into different communities and feel like you belong. So, Glasgow, here I come!
What Did I Actually Do in 2021?
MOVEMENT:
I started out teaching online, then stopped. Then taught in-person, and stopped again. I’ve been uploading YouTube videos every New & Full Moon (you’ve seen them, right?), but it’s just not the same. And as for the gym? Inconsistent, but hey, at least I’m trying!
MUSINGS:
I kicked off 2021 writing Lady of Water—inspired by the sea in Montrose—but Everlasting took over. Remember that LIVE book cover reveal? (I’m still obsessed with Georgie’s magic!) Then, I hit a snag: rejection from an Instagram marketing company. Ego bruised, confidence shaken—but I’m bouncing back. Thanks for being my secret-keeper, yeah? 🤫
MAGIC:
I felt connected to something special—call it magic, call it wonder. But somewhere around August (coincidentally, when I stopped teaching movement), it seemed to disappear. Is there a connection? Probably.
🚦2021 GREENLIGHT! 🚦
Despite the bumps, one bright light came in the form of Andrea—an angel who brought me into a small, heart-based non-profit team in Switzerland. It’s part-time, remote, and yes, I get to dust off my rusty German. The work is fulfilling and has made me feel valued, respected, and appreciated—life. changing.
2021 Book of the Year:
If I could recommend just one book, it’s this one. Whether you read or listen, Greenlights is what my soul needed to navigate and say farewell to 2021 and truly appreciate the green lights in life.
“Hopefully, it’s medicine that tastes good, a couple of aspirin instead of the infirmary, a spaceship to Mars without needing your pilot’s license, going to church without having to be born again, and laughing through the tears. It’s a love letter. To life. It’s also a guide to catching more greenlights – and to realizing that the yellows and reds eventually turn green too. Good luck!” – Matthew McConaughey
What Will 2022 Nomad Adventures Look Like?
I’ll start 2022 in North Berwick, but I’m aiming for the west coast. Somewhere I can finally call home for at least 6 months (shocking, right?). I’m manifesting community vibes in Glasgow. And, dare I say it? I might be ready to put down roots. Furniture shopping, decorating, and maybe even calling it… home? Fingers crossed!
What I Desire to Do in 2022
MOVEMENT:
Time to get back on the mat. I’ll be a student again—somewhere, somehow. The question “Who is Melanie without Movement?” has been answered, and let’s just say, it’s not pretty. 2022? Movement. Classes. Bad jokes. We’re back, baby.
MUSINGS:
First things first, I’m shaking off that rejection and putting on my big girl pants. Everlasting will get finished—how does a Spring Equinox release sound? And maybe we can summon the Muse to kickstart Lady of Water again?
Transitioning from 2021 to Transformation in 2022
If 2021 had a theme, it was Transition. And as I say farewell to 2021 and plans for 2022 take shape, it’s all about Transformation.
Now, over to you—what word, theme, or vibe comes up when you think of 2022? Drop it in the comments, I’d love to know what’s on your mind.
Before we ring in the new year, I want you to know how much you are appreciated, valued, and yes—loved. Now, what’s YOUR plan for 2022? Let’s make it magical.
